NRT and the Science, Innovation and Technology Select Committee

Dec 13, 2024

We rounded off the year on a high note with a visit from the House of Commons select committee for science, innovation and technology. The committee, chaired by Dame Chi Onwurah MP, chose Liverpool as the first destination for their visits and were welcomed by Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor, Steve Rotherham, and members of the Knowledge Quarter. This included local SMEs, universities (including LJMU) and innovation facilities such as the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) and the Materials Innovation Factory (MIF).

Chloé Miossec (NRT instrument scientist) and David Copley (NRT systems engineer) were invited to attend. They presented the 3D printed NRT scale model (see image below) and gave an overview of the NRT project; including how it build on the success of the Liverpool telescope and fits into the regional and national innovation ecosystem. The panel were impressed by the ambitious project and were facinated by the techncial requirements of a remote robotic facility designed to slew so quickly. Chloé reflected on the experience: “It was a great opportunity to show the skills here in Liverpool, and the expertise that lies in LJMU”
