The NRT will be co-located on the same observatory site as the Liverpool Telescope and GTC facilities. This is on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands. The observatory site is known as Roqueoptics de Los Muchachos Observatory (ORM).
It is a world class observatory based in the northern hemisphere with excellent observing conditions and a host of leading telescopes already operating.
The decommissioned Carlsberg Meridian Telescope site is the planned home for NRT with its existing access road and electrical/telecoms services already routed. It is at an altitude of 2300m above sea level.
Planning permission is currently being sought and construction will begin following demolition of the CMT building.
